South Korean swimming and diving sensation Woo Haram (25, Korea Sports Authority) revealed his longtime girlfriend after winning a silver medal at the Asian Games. His girlfriend is diver Cho Eun-ji (26, Incheon Metropolitan Government).
“I hope this silver medal can be a Chuseok gift for everyone, including my family, girlfriend and teammates,” said Uharam after winning the men’s synchro 3m springboard final at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022 at the Hangzhou Olympic and Sports Center in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China, on Tuesday with a total score of 393.00 for the first to sixth dives. “Everyone knows who my girlfriend is. I want to take this opportunity to publicly express my gratitude.”
Uharam’s girlfriend, Cho Eun-ji, is the younger sister of Cho Eun-bi (28, Incheon Metropolitan Government), who competed for the women’s national team at the Hangzhou Asian Games. The two became known as the “diving sisters” during their time at Incheon Gymnasium, and now play for the same team as their older sister. Uharam and Cho Eun-ji are already a well-known ‘publicized couple’ in the swimming world, having met and fallen in love in the pool.
Lee Jae-kyung (24, Gwangju Metropolitan Sports Association), who won a silver medal with Uharam in the men’s synchro spring 3-meter event, is also a “diving couple,” married to Kim Yuna, a former diver. She and Uharam have a lot in common, which makes it easier for them to work together.
“I’m really sorry that I’m away from my wife and daughter during the holidays when I should be spending time with my family. I wanted to win more medals,” said Lee. “I won an Asian Games medal thanks to many people, but my wife is the one who gave me the most support. I would like to thank her for her dedication so that I can focus on my training.”
Woo Haram is the greatest athlete South Korean diving has ever produced. He finished fourth in the 1-meter springboard and 3-meter springboard individual events at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea’s highest-ever finish in men’s diving. At the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, he finished fourth in the men’s 3-meter springboard, his highest-ever finish, and came close to an Olympic medal.
However, he missed last year’s World Championships in Budapest due to back pain. At the Fukuoka World Championships in July, he had to accept a disappointing result after failing to qualify for the 3-meter springboard.
“I’ve hit rock bottom and I’m on my way up,” said Uharam. I’ve been training in synchro with Lee Jae-kyung and doing individual training on my own, and I’ve felt my performance improve.” “With this silver medal, I’m going to increase my speed. I am 토토 determined to win medals in the remaining individual events (1-meter springboard and 3-meter springboard) and to repay the many people who supported me by winning a medal at the Paris Olympics.”
“When Haram trained synchronized with his brother, it made me think, ‘I can’t be left behind. I trained harder than ever,” she said, adding, “I won’t forget what’s on my mind now, and I will do well in the remaining games.”
